2013 Event Beneficiaries
West End School is a free, private, college prep, PreK-8 school for at-risk young men located in Louisville, Kentucky. Admission is open to boys entering Pre-K, Kindergarten and Sixth Grade who are on free or reduced lunch, are capable of doing academic work at grade level or above and who would benefit from a safe environment & high expectations. West End School strives to address all of the issues boys in our community face by creating for its students a environment of high expectations not dependent on the culture at large. Through the School’s rigorous academic & personal standards, we encourage our students to attain the highest possible level of scholarship, intellectual growth and responsibility & character.
Boys & Girls Clubs of Kentuckiana (BGCK) is an out-of-school time provider, offering a safe haven for youth who need us. We open our doors and our arms to kids ages 6-18, in a safe, positive environment. Inside our Clubs, kids are greeted by name by adult youth professionals in a fun, family atmosphere.
We encourage the development of the whole child by focusing on 5 key areas: Character and Leadership Development; Education and Career Development; Health and Life Skills; The Arts and Sports, Fitness and Recreation. In addition, Boys & Girls Clubs of Kentuckiana operates Kids Cafes in each of its Clubs in partnership with the Dare to Care Food Bank, serving a hot meal every day.
We operate 5 Clubs: Shawnee and Parkland in West Louisville, Newburg, Ed Endres in New Albany and Jeffersonville. Clubs are located in neighborhoods where our members live so they are convenient and easily accessible. Each Club has a gym, game room, computer room, education room and dedicated teen space.
